Health care reform

Here I am, ready to vent all my stresses due to the passing of the new health care reform. As I was watching some of the news coverage this morning, I think my blood pressure probably got way too high. It's silly to stress and worry over things like this, after all I do believe my God has His hand over the situation. However, that doesn't mean good things will happen; it only means that it is ultimately a part of the larger plan and I can accept that. Now, that doesn't mean that I can slap on a fake smile and give a thumbs up to the people supporting it and the government passing it. I have every right to be concerned and express my concerns. So, here I go... This heated public debate has been going on for months. From public negotiations, speeches, to closed-door negotiations and individual opinions. Congress finally cast a historic vote on health care this past Sunday. It is a sad day. Here we stand openly witnessing further dismantling of the Constitution, complete heedlessness of the will of the people, dangerous growth of the reach of government, and the approaching end of quality health care as we know it (or hope thereof). Those who support this bill wear the role as if they stand up higher than those of us who are wholly against it. They act as if those of us who aren't in support of it are against good medical care. They talk the 'good' talk and fool those who are beyond reason and logic, or those are are ignorant to the intentions of the bill and those who are just plain uneducated about any of it. They cite appealing statistics of deficit reduction, all while making plans to enlarge the already struggling medical welfare programs, requiring every one to sign up for the insurance (or be fined), oh...and the plans that you are now forced to accept are ridiculously expensive (?!). How can anyone willingly choose to play along? Well...I guess you have to, because if you choose not to play you'll be fined 1-2% of your income. 1-2% of your income! Let's talk about how much freedom is in that. Shall we? Our government, is enforcing a country wide health care reform bill; that requires you to sign up for their health insurance and if you do not sign up for the governments health insurance then you will be fined. Am I really the only one who sees something wrong with this?! I will only touch on the abortion aspect because I will get too emotional. By forcing us to all accept the governments new health care plans we will be forced to support abortion clinics. Our 'united' health care will include a woman's 'free choice' to go and kill a baby that she carries inside of her. The funds aren't going to be separated, even though they claim to be trying to make that happen. They somehow think that health care in this country will be improved by controlling what businesses offer, what individual Americans have to accept, and by swelling up our welfare funds. The ultimatum is ridiculous. Not to mention what this will do to actual doctors, hospitals, and other heath care businesses. This legislation does not even deal with the real reasons why health care is a struggle for so many - the astronomical costs. If reform was seriously discussed, if the massive regulatory burden on health care was reduced and reformed, if the free market was allowed to function, perhaps people wouldn't be so indebted to insurance companies in the first place and perhaps health care would work more efficiently. If doctors and facilities could practice more privately then costs wouldn't have to be so high and more people could pay for what they needed done out of pocket; as they were able to do at one time, before the government got so involved. Of course, the most appalling aspect of this bill is that it is so blatantly unconstitutional and contrary to the foundation of liberty. Nowhere in the Constitution is there anything approaching authority for the government to do any of this. Our founders would have been horrified at the idea of government forcing citizens to become consumers of their product. Citizens have a responsibility over their own life, but they also have the liberty to choose how they will live and protect their own lives. Health care choices...are a part of our liberties, another one that is being stripped away from us. As for the argument of obeying the law of the land: modern democracy is the government of the people, that means that the people are the rulers and the government is the servant. Modern government does not rule, it serves. The authority is the individual, not the state. Our Constitutional rights state this clearly, our foundation, our liberties, our freedoms grant us this. Why do we stand by and idly accept the rapid growth and power our government accumulates? Not just accept, but we encourage it...support it. There might not be many things to stop/prevent it, but the least you can do is stand against it.
